Scheduling Conflicts

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on January 29, 2013 by Angela Roquet

I should be writing right now… on book 3 in my series. There’s just a lot of distractions lately. Plus, the flu epidemic in my household has thrown off Xav’s sleep schedule, so my night time writing sessions are being spent in the living room, with my husband snoring on the sofa next to me and Disney movies on the television. Oh, and Xav’s figured out how to deconstruct his playpen, by pulling the Velcro loose from the floor mat, so that’s kind of split my attention too. I really hope I can get him back to dozing off around 8 or so. Then I can type in peace for a few hours, preferably from the comfort of my magically awesome office. Speaking of my office, check out this crazy fantastic owl my mom gave me for Christmas. I’m going to hang it from the ceiling next to my desk.

Well, I’m supposed to have the first half of this novel off to a couple of my Beta readers by the end of the week, so back to Limbo City I go. I’ll be posting again soon though. Chelsea’s Paranormal Addicts, a very kick-ass book review blog, will be featuring an interview with me soon! I’ll be sure to post links all over the place, once it’s up on their site. Also, I’ll be eating brains in April…

Good Morning and Good Night

So, I haven’t been to sleep yet. I just spent the witching hours writing a heap of OCD lists (groceries, what I’m going to plant in my garden in the spring, an updated budget, all the things I’m going to do with my spare time now that I’m through with college, a to-do list for today, and Monday… and Tuesday, ect.). I also cruised around the interwebs checking out random book review blogs and vlogs, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m going to fancy up my Youtube channel and start incorporating videos into the blog… that I don’t update very much as it is, but I plan to change that now that school’s out. Seriously, I think I have enough spare time coming my way that I could plot out a pretty detailed plan for world domination by next summer. You know, if I was into that sort of thing.
I think my lack of sleep is due to excitement and uncertainty. My schedule is about to get a massive makeover, and I’m not sure how it’s all going to play out just yet. I’m optimistic though. I intend to write 10,000 words a week, though Guide week will probably throw a wrench into that equation. So we’ll say 5,000 that week. Which calculates out to roughly 35,000 words a month. If I count what I already have typed, I’ll have book 3 in my series completed by the end of February. Then I’ll send it off to my editors (my lovely seester and my awesome comp II professor, and maybe my friend Brad if he’ll forgive me for not getting that advanced copy of book 2 to him…), and then I’ll do revisions and have it published by the first of April. That’s the projected timeline anyway.
I’m being really ambitious and planning on doing more extensive networking with the book review blogger community too. Maybe I’ll see about setting up a blog tour. There’s lots of fun stuff going on here on the net, and I’m a little surprised that I’ve fallen behind technologically. I was learning html and how to code my own website 12 years ago, this shouldn’t be an issue. The goal is to post a video book review on Mondays, and then to post a regular blog or video on writing, publishing, or life in general on Thursdays. I imagine this is all going to end up getting worked into a New Year’s resolution, since I still have gifts to wrap and Christmas cards to make. Yeah, I’m making Christmas cards this year. I’m feeling crafty. Let’s hope it sticks.

It was a Tuesday…

What happened to Monday? I haven’t been to bed yet. I think I’m going to just skip it. Too much to do. There are biology experiments to be conducted, and comp papers to be written, and grocery shopping to be done. Oh, where to begin! I’ve been attempting to backup a few of the DVDs that Xav is quickly wearing out, but I’m not having much luck. I’ve downloaded a ton of new software, and I’ve wasted half a dozen discs, but for some reason, none of them will play on our blu-ray player. I’ve moved on to Thumb drives, since our TV has a USB input. I’m on my fourth file conversion. Not getting anywhere yet. Crap. I may have to harass an expert. I can’t believe it’s after 7am already. Geez, why can’t this to-do list just do itself?

Time Warp

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on September 20, 2012 by Angela Roquet

Two hours of sleep. I think that would actually be classified as a nap. So I took a nap last night. Between 10:30 and 12:30. And then Xav woke up with more energy than any child should have after midnight. We snacked and watched “Meet the Robinsons,” his current favorite movie. He finally conked out around five, and I’ve been doing ebook edits and formatting for the past couple hours.

I could be sleeping, but if I lay down now, I won’t be up in time to do last minutes edits to October’s real estate guide and get it uploaded to the press in time. I’m also waiting on an early call from the company I order banner material from, since I have a customer who needs three banners yesterday. I have a paper to finish for my comp class, and a bio quiz and lab to finish by the weekend. Why can’t the days be longer? I need more time. Or a clone.

Oh, and my first book signing is tomorrow. Wow. That really snuck up on me. I can’t wait to get some new pictures for the web site, especially with my husband in his Grim costume. I’ve got another signing in Texas at the end of October. I’ll be posting more details soon. I’m really looking forward to the Texas trip. Paul’s taking a couple days off of work, and we’ll have a little down time in between events to go explore. There’s an indoor zoo we’re going to check out. I can’t wait to see how Xav reacts. He’s really observant lately. This should be fun!

Zombie Coffee

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on September 17, 2012 by Angela Roquet

I’ve had just enough coffee that I think my brain activity is registering at zombie frequencies right now. I know it’s nearly noon, but I didn’t sleep last night. At all. Not even a nap. Not even resting my eyes. Which are bloodshot. How about all those fragments? The grammar police who live in my head are having a fit right now. The reason for my sleepless night is that it’s guide weekend. That special time of the month where I get three days to design a 72 page real estate guide and have the proofs out by 9am Monday morning. I could have slept afterwards, I suppose, but then there would be no way I could wake up in time for my Comp II class on campus, and I really hate missing class. Maybe I’ll pick up some Visine on the way.

So my box of books arrived. Except that they weren’t my books. The problem has been fixed and I now have the correct books, but it did remind me of my first signing for book one. A last minute text change that was done wrong by someone at the publishing house resulted in 113 typos per book, and 100 books had already been shipped out. The corrected books came in hours before the signing. Talk about sweating bullets. I’m glad I planned for something like that this time. I hadn’t actually counted on something dire happening again, but at least now I have the immense satisfaction of feeling well prepared. Yay me. And now I have twenty preteen books by an author named Lisa Ard to unload. The publisher said they were mine to do with as I pleased. I’m thinking about dropping them off at one of the grade schools. Maybe I’ll contact Ms. Ard and see what she would have me do. I wonder if she got my box of books and is wondering what to do with them as well. Hmmmm. I think it’s time to make a new friend.
